Motivated for the final spurt
In a few weeks, the Attila Boutique Boatel will set off on its first cruise, taking guests across Lake Murten, Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Biel. Small but beautiful, sustainable and with great attention to design and detail. CEO Beat Kläy explains what the final spurt will look like over the next few weeks.
Beat, spring is approaching and with it the season for excursions on the 3 Jura lakes. How excited are you?
My anticipation is enormous, it will be about two months before we can set off under our own steam from the mooring in Sugiez towards the three lakes for the first time. I am even more looking forward to welcoming the first guests personally on the Attila Boutique Boatel soon! We are doing everything we can to make every trip on the Attila a unique experience for every guest.
Are the preparations going according to plan, can you give a brief update on what's going on at the moment?
We are on course, but of course there is still a lot of preparatory work to be done at all levels. What additionally motivates us from the Reederei Vully AG team is the palpable enthusiasm of all the people and companies involved in the project - the Attila arouses emotions! The interior work is currently in full swing, and Atelier Oi from La Neuveville has come up with a great design. We have also started the sales process, are preparing all the relevant processes for the hotel operation, are training the nautical staff and are gaining new partners every day who are as enthusiastic about our project as we are - without them, it would not be possible to realize such a project in this way.
As CEO, you have to manage and juggle different areas at the same time. Rather exhausting or just exciting?
Of course, it's hugely exciting and challenging - the contacts with potential guests are particularly pleasing at the moment, who - especially in the current pandemic situation - are noticeably excited about the new offer in Switzerland. Ultimately, no two days are the same - after all, we are building a new business. Many solutions have to be developed from scratch or from scratch, and fortunately I can also rely on many specialists who challenge us in a wide variety of areas. I am also training to become a light sailor. It is important to me to experience all aspects of future activities first-hand.
What can cruise guests expect on the Attila? Could you outline a typical vacation day on the boat for us?
When you open the curtains in the morning, you will experience a fantastic sunrise. Over breakfast in the Captain's Lounge, we make plans for the day, take a relaxing cruise across the lake or go on exciting excursions in the region. Of course, there is always enough time to "chill out" on the upper deck or aft, have a cool drink and enjoy a dip in the lake in a bay. We also offer sporting activities. If you want to exercise, you'll have plenty of options. And at the end of the day, we enjoy the sunset on deck with an aperitif, followed by a delicious dinner and - if you like - a cigar and a fine long drink.
That sounds fantastic! The Attila is not a typical cruise ship, but small and fine and above all sustainable. Can you give us an insight into the propulsion etc.?
We are hybrid-powered, i.e. we run on electric motors that are powered by solar and/or green electricity depending on availability or, if necessary, by state-of-the-art diesel generators. We focus on sustainability in all areas and offer products from the region on board wherever possible.
There are various offers such as the 6-day cruise, weekend excursions or business trips. How and where is the easiest way to book?
