Soon it will be "Cast off!"

In less than a month, the Boutique Boatel will set off on its first cruise in the beautiful 3-Lakes region. While spring is on its way outside, final work is taking place in Sugiez near Murten. Attila CEO Beat Kläy gives an update on the status of the work, its energy reserves, the coronavirus measures on board and the importance of sustainability.

Beat, how is your energy level so close to the start of Boutique Boatel?

The energy reserves are still full, we are in an enormously exciting phase. On the one hand, there is a lot of activity on the boat, with almost all the craftsmen involved in the conversion now on site at the same time to complete the extension. Without their great commitment, it would not be possible to complete the conversion in the specified time. A big thank you to all of them. On the other hand, communication measures are in full swing, as are cruise and charter sales. There are still a thousand details to sort out, and every day brings new challenges that we master together as a team.
But energy level is also a good keyword in terms of sustainability. Together with Groupe E and the responsible engineers, we have developed an energy concept that is designed for the sustainable use of resources. Photovoltaics is one keyword, the use of salt batteries as an ecologically sensible alternative is another.

What is still missing, what percentage would you say is still missing until everything is ready?

Looking at all types of work, I would say we are at around 75%. We expect to complete the work on May 15 in order to prepare the following week for the first cruise, which starts on May 23. We still have to train the ship's crew, finalize the operating processes, continue to actively support sales, etc. Further adjustments will certainly be needed in all areas in the first few weeks of operation, and ultimately the first guest feedback will also be incorporated. Our aim is to provide our customers with the highest quality of service, so this work will never be complete.

How is the collaboration with all those involved organized?

We are experiencing highly professional and goal-oriented cooperation in all areas. The sponsors, the craftsmen, the sales partners, the supporters in the area of communication, but also the Board of Directors and the shareholders are 100% behind the project and help us wherever they can. A big thank you to all of them!

As you know, Atelier Oi is responsible for the interior fit-out. What is it like to work with such a renowned office?

Incredibly professional, pragmatic and goal-oriented. There are new tasks every day and they always support us in finding solutions. The "lifeblood" they put into their work is palpable. At the end of the day, there are budget constraints to be met, so certain design ideas have to be adapted to the available financial resources. It is an art to get the maximum out of efficiently deployed resources - Atelier Oi manages this balancing act thanks to their tireless efforts.

The coronavirus is still plaguing us and affecting our travel. How are you preparing for this challenge?

We have a protection concept that reflects the current requirements. This includes cleaning and disinfection plans and stations, adaptation of operating processes and constant contact with the authorities. As the indoor areas of the restaurants are currently still closed, we also need to have a plan B in case this situation persists until the start of the cruises. Finally, we want to involve the businesses around the 3 lakes in our project, which is also a point of sustainability.

What should you definitely book now so you don't miss out?

Of course, we are delighted that so many guests are already taking part in the first cruises! Some shorter cruise dates are already fully booked, and we are also preparing themed weeks such as golf, yoga, etc. There won't be too much on offer here, so it's very important to book early.

When are you going to sit back, relax and say: "There, that's good now"...?

I don't know, probably not too soon. But on the first ride I will hopefully have the opportunity to raise a glass with the Board of Directors, toast the success of the project and smoke a fine cigar. This is a first milestone, but as with the Tour de France, it is only the prologue!
