The most beautiful region in the world

Stéphane Moret is a man from Seeland who lives and loves his region. The director of Murten Tourism talks about jogging by the lake in the morning, the light capital of Switzerland and why he is certain that the Attila will be a success.

Stéphane Moret, you grew up in Murten and now represent the region as Director of Tourism. What is so special about the Lake Murten region?

The Lake Murten region radiates a very special "vacation feeling". You simply feel at home here. So it came as no surprise to me when Murten was named the Swiss town with the highest quality of life in an Economiesuisse survey a few years ago. I think that as residents of this region, we are extremely lucky. For me, the Lake Murten region is the most beautiful place in the world!

Which areas are currently at the forefront of tourism development, what is particularly important?

Murten is particularly popular in summer and is also very well visited. This will not change. We are therefore currently working very hard on developing winter tourism. We would like to launch various light art animations in winter over the next few years. Our aim is to become the light capital of Switzerland. We are also developing a very interesting project with the organic vegetable producers of the Grosse Moos. Cooperation with vegetable and wine producers in the region is also very important to us. We will increasingly incorporate regional products into our tourism activities. We also want to become the absolute top destination in Switzerland for smaller, creative seminars over the next few years.

How have you experienced this difficult year, what gives you confidence for the coming months?

I see the coronavirus situation as an opportunity for Murten. Last summer season, we beat all visitor records since Expo02. For the most part, we were able to attract new customers to our region. I am convinced that we were able to attract new regular customers. On the other hand, we had to adjust our plans, goals and products over the course of the year. It was an intensive but also very interesting time. Many considerations and adjustments will help us to become even more customer-oriented and adaptable in the future.

You know and support the Attila project, how important is such a project for tourism in the region?

Innovative highlights like the Attila project are the best marketing for a region. This new project carries all the values of the region: innovation, relaxation, experience... and this with high quality. I am also convinced that this project will lead to further ideas and offers. I am very much looking forward to it!

What do you particularly like about the Attila project?

I like the professionalism of the Attila team. What really counts in a project are the people behind it. They should be visionary, adaptable and professional. The Attila team gives me an excellent feeling. The conditions are ideal for Attila to be a successful project.

We live between four cantons, speak two languages and have numerous cultural and historical treasures.

Would you go on a cruise on the Attila yourself?

I have a sailing boat myself and enjoy one or two weeks' vacation on the Three Lakes every year with my family. We always feel like we're at sea. We love the freedom on the boat and therefore probably won't book a week-long cruise. But I can well imagine spending a few days on the Attila with my wife to recharge my batteries. I would also be very interested in a creative workshop with our team on the boat.

Why should tourists definitely visit the Three Lakes Region?

Because life is so beautiful here. The diversity is incredible. We live between four cantons, two languages, have numerous cultural and historical treasures... with a glass of local wine in one hand and a piece of "Nidlechueche" in the other. What else?

What are your personal favorite places in the region?

The lake remains my biggest source of energy. I love jogging along the lake in the morning. I experience a different atmosphere every day. It gives me the strength to fight for a better world every day. 🙂
